Multiplying Fractions Level 1

Le plan en 5 étapes

Practice multiplying fractions here with the 5-step plan. At this level we multiply fractions with fractions. One way of multiplying fractions is multiplying the numerator (the top number of the fraction) by the numerator and multiplying the denominator (the bottom number of the fraction) by the denominator. And then simplify, make the fraction as small as possible.

Description : Multiplying Fractions 1

Example 1: 13 x 15
To multiply fractions with fractions we multiply the numerator by the numerator and the denominator by the denominator. And then we check if we can simplify.

First the numerators: 1 x 1 = 1 And then the denominators: 3 x 5 = 15. The answer is 115. Can we simplify? No, that's not possible. The answer is 13 x 15 = 115.

Example 2: 23 x 14
To multiply fractions, we multiply the numerator by the numerator and the denominator by the denominator. And then we check if we can simplify.

Numerator multiplied by numerator is: 2 x 1 = 2. Then denominator multiplied by denominator: 3 x 4 = 12. This makes the answer 212. Is it possible to simplify? Yes, that's possible. 212 = 16. The answer is 23 x 14 = 16.
